Hi, I’m Riana Stasa! My Great Grandfather, John Stasa, came from Police, Moravia, Bohemia in 1906 through Galveston with his brother Josef and his parents Josef and Anna Stasa. His Wife, Albina Poboril, was born here and her Parents Frantisek and Anna came her in the late 1890s from Moravia. They helped build the town of Buckholts, Texas and were very involved with the SPJST and Sokol Organization. John and Albina would take in Czech immigrants and give them work and lodging to help them build their own homes and settle in America in the early 20th century. My great grandfather John Stasa was a writer for the Vestnik, a historian, farmer, Cotton Gin Manager, home builder, ship builder during WWII, Sokol Hall leader, President of Lodge 79 in Corpus Christi and an all around renaissance man. He did much for the Czech community in Texas with help from his family and many others involved in preserving the Czech Heritage and working with Czech organizations.

I accidentally opened this page and saw your question.
Apparently looking for a recipe for strudel. It’s a recipe from Austria, as we were once a part of it. Strudels here in the Czech Republic is still doing, filled with various fillings such as poppy seeds, plum jam, cottage cheese and apple. Either it is rolled cone or rolled up can be smooth form.
recipe:
1 – Poppy seed strudel de luxe
Raw materials
Dough:
500 g plain flour
20 g yeast
2 dl milk
80g sugar
0.5 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 lemon zest
100 g butter (pokrájeného)
Filling:
120 g poppy seeds (ground)
1.5 dl milk
50 g sugar
60 g almonds (chopped)
50 g citronátu (chopped, candied pomeračové peel or candied fruits)
50 g raisins (soaked in rum)
On the affliction:
60 g of butter
40 g of powdered sugar
The recipe has not enjoyed the 35 cooks
The recipe I like
Preparation Recipe
For milk and yeast let rise yeast, add the rest and prop classic yeast dough.
Leave in a warm place to rise for about 3/4 hour.
Meanwhile, poppy, pour boiling milk, add everything else, thoroughly stir and let cool.
Risen dough again to refine and pomoučeněném roller roll into a rectangle of about 30 cm x 40 cm (length of plate).

First, we leaven yeast, sugar, tablespoon of flour and a tablespoon of milk.
After rising sourdough mix all the other ingredients, add the yeast mixture and prepare a smooth dough. (Proving dough I do prefer a home bakery raw materials then I give in order of liquid, bulk salt into one corner to the opposite corner leaven). I let the dough rise for an hour, twice I kneaded.
Flatten the dough, divide it into two halves, each roll into a thin pancake, which he considers to stuffing and strudels. Carefully transfer to baking sheet and let rise for about 20 minutes, top Inject a roll, spread with butter and beaten egg, put in oven preheated to 180 ° C. Bake 30-40 minutes at 180, according to the oven.
Stuffing:
I made the stuffing according to local recipe, but I added raisins.

This Spring I am engaging in a photo art project centered around Czech heritage in Texas.
I wish to locate, interview and photograph Czech-born residents living in central Texas and tell their story – why they left former Czechoslovakia and why they chose Texas.
In mid-April I will travel to the Czech Republic and photograph the homes, towns or other locations that hold special meaning for the Czech-Texans or Czexans as I am calling them for this project. These portraits and Czech scenics will be joined together and available for display along with the written interview of each individual.
I have been working as a professional photographer for over 14 years in the U.S. and the U.K. From 1996-98 I lived in the Czech Republic and taught English conversation to elementary school students in my wife’s home town of Sokolov.
I need help in this project in multiple ways. First, I am in need of locating Czech-born Texas residents, preferably those who left Czechoslovakia before the Velvet Revolution in 1989. Second, since the project has just launched, I am still looking for backers to support the project. Third, once the project is completed, I’d like to find spaces to display it.
Please let me know if you are willing and able to help with any of these needs.

I grew up in Praha, TX. Graduated from Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg in 1977 and have been away ever since travelling with a military spouse and having my own career as a civilian with the US Army. I do not recall any Krejcis in Praha while I was growing up but that doesn’t mean they weren’t there. I live in San Antonio, TX, now and have the pleasure of going back to the annual Praha picnic, Maticka Praha, every August 15th. If you would like to make some serious connections with folks in Praha, please consider coming to the next picnic on August 15, 2016, and inquire with the elders of the parish. The picnic is on a Monday this year. You won’t regret coming. You’ll be amazed at how many people will be there even though the picnic is on a week day. The food is worth coming for if nothing else. The picnic is held every year on August 15th regardless of which day of the week it falls on. Good luck with your search.
